Cambridge Stud’s outstanding mare Joliestar posted her fourth elite-level success at Randwick on Saturday when taking out the Gr.1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m).
It comes a year to the day after her Gr.1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m) triumph at Flemington, and now owners Sir Brendan and Lady Jo Lindsay and trainer Chris Waller are looking to press on towards Royal Ascot with their mare.
“We know the date she’s leaving and everything like that so that’s how far we’ve gone into the program,” Waller said. “Every race you’ve got to come back safe and do the little things right and keep her good form.
“She’s a great mare and come back much stronger. She’s been unlucky in some of the big ones, but this was her day and she’ll got to the TJ Smith Stakes (G1, 1200m) next.”
Leading hoop James McDonald was once again aboard the daughter of Zoustar and he was rapt to get the result for his loyal supporters.
“It was pretty special and all credit to Chris and his team,” McDonald said. “They are always turned out immaculately, they are here to win and as long as we get a little bit of luck throughout the race they do the job.”
Joliestar was bred by Chris Barham and was purchased by Cambridge Stud out of Segenhoe Stud’s 2022 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale draft for A$950,000.
She has gone on to win nine of her 20 starts to date, including four at elite-level, and has accrued nearly A$7.2 million in earnings.
